Flint Residence – Rock Creek Ranch
Along Elk River off of Seed House Road
The Flints wanted us to design several log structures for a variety of uses on their 90 Acre ranch property. Their goal was to create buildings that would blend together in a casual country atmosphere, yet they wanted a unique look and personality for each building.
After meeting with the clients and discussing their options, it was decided that each building would use a different style of log construction to give each structure the distinctive look the clients wanted. The cabin is a Norwegian scribe, the barn a three sided “D” log, and the house a full round log with chinking. The caretaker cottage is a frame structure, but is sided with “Wisconsin Log” siding with laced corners to match and compliment the other buildings on the site.
We began working on the cabin and barn in 1986, and continued to work on the property for the Flints for a number of years, adding the residence and caretaker unit. Later, we worked with new owners to create additions for an office and garage. Each building has it’s own individual character and yet is in harmony with the surrounding landscape and other buildings on the property.
